Intercol is a producer of hot melt glue. Various hot melts are conceivable, see us for that overview.

A hot melt melts

The most characteristic feature of a hot melt is that it melts under the influence of relatively high temperature. By default this is approximately 160 ° C. The basis of this melting property is a thermoplastic plastic, for example EVA (Ethyl Vinyl Acetate) or PO (Polyolefin).

A hot melt glues (adheres)

In addition to the thermoplastic, plastic / plastic property, a hot melt adhesive also has the property that it sticks to other materials (adhesion). To this end, resins are incorporated in the glue.

The melting point

The melting point a hot melt glue is the temperature, where the hot melt becomes liquid. This is not the same as heat resistance. Sometimes the term softening point is also used, but this often creates confusion, because this can also be about the temperature that is meant by the heat resistance.

What is hot melt?

Hotmelt is a fusion of something that needs to be glued and melted. in the base there are three components in the glue:

  • A plastic polymer, eg EVA or PO
  • A resin for the adhesion to other surfaces
  • One was to quickly make the glue "drying", better "fast-binding".

There are also hot melts based on pure polymer, such as PA (PolyAmide) or thermosetting, cross-linking PUR hot melts.

Hot melt glue sticks

Hotmelt glue sticks are a well-known appearance. These are also easily workable with hand glue gunn, for eg 11mm or 12mm glue patterns.

The appearance in the industry, bulk packaging are usually in

  • Granulate (bags, crates or bigbags)
  • Blocks (boxes, boxes or bigbags)
  • pillows (boxes, boxes or bigbags)
  • Barrels (1,8L, 2L, 20L or 200L)

Remove hot melt adhesive

Hotmelt glue can be removed with various means, common solvents from the DIY store, but also with the food safe PD 500 FS from Intercol

Hot melt equipment

Many of our bulk hot melt adhesives are processed in specific equipment, often these are tank with spray systems. Spray systems can also be extrusion systems, coating heads, swirl or curtain coatings.

Other systems are hot glue rollers, which are often fed with a barrel melting system. Sometimes extruders are used.
